From their homeland of Meracydia, the descendants of The Wolf traversed the frigid seas into the lands of Eorzea, where over the generations, they began to divide themselves across the land. However, a tribe among the diverging many kept to the thick woodlands of the Black Shroud, and in their search for the foundation the tribe could be built upon, they rooted themselves along the White Maiden River of the Northern Shroud and extended their territory with each generation soon calling themselves Ahhesegrohiik.Over time, the reach of the tribe encompassed the entirety of the resourceful river, but in the pursuit of security for the tribe’s continuation, the branches of the tree stretched along the river and further into the Shroud. Going as far to soon align themselves with Keepers clans in which bonded heavily with them. Though with the passage of time and unfortunate events the tribe died out and only now in the current era have they resurfaced once more, hoping to bring forth the name of the Wolf.

Courtship

Traditionally, a wolf suitor brought an offering of venison to a potential mate. The wolf was expected to track, kill, and prepare the meat of the deer and leave it outside their door. If they left the meat outside, the suitor knew the curter showed no interest. On the other hand, if they cooked the meat and offered it to them as a meal, they accepted their courtship.
The first thing a wolf must do is bring their potential mate an offering that represents one of the aspects of the hunt. Doing so bestows the curter good fortune and blessings from the Great Hunter in their next hunts. Most times offerings are fur coats crafted by the suitor to be worn within the pack territory and at home.
During their courtship, the suitor must prove that they can be a strong provider for the curter as well as show their strength, often will they take on dangerous hunts to show their court they are worthy.

The Ghigua Blessing

Wolf tribe courtship culminated with a blessing from the Ghigua. They held the power to pronounce them suitable or unsuitable. In their presence, the Ghigua performed a dreamweed ceremony (Unique dance and prayer within the tribes ritual grounds).
The dreamweed ceremony served to seek the blessing of the Great hunter and to identify and counteract any evil spirits or lingering doubt and frustrations. The Pozdrav then performed tests for other afflictions typically diseases. Finally, The Ghigua chanted and offered prayers for guidance.
If the Great Hunter pronounced the two suitable for marriage to each other, the wolves' friends took them immediately to enjoy a ceremonial meal. The suitor also enjoyed a feast with their friends and family. Their family served them favorite foods, and the unmarried wolves served them their strongest hunts to their union. Decidedly more reverently, the older wolves offered a different sort of instruction regarding duties.
Sometimes, the wolf omitted an actual wedding ceremony. In these cases, the suitor would leave their home and move into his suitors household. As simply as that, they were married. Other times, an elaborate and beautiful ceremony ensued.

Death

- Burial
The funeral begins with Wolf prayers led by the Ghigua or Priest/Priestess. During the service the Ghigua prays on the behalf of the deceased and offers spiritual lessons to the living. The funeral ends in prayer and the body is carried to its final resting place on the shoulders of the funeral procession. Wolf tradition is that the funeral would take place the day after the death of the wolf, when preparations have completed the ceremony begins.
- Mourning Period
Traditionally the Wolf have a seven day mourning period under the auspices of the Ghigua or Priest/Priestess. This period is considered a spiritual cleansing time for the entire pack. During this time the pack is not allowed to be angry or jovial and must restrict their intake of food and water. As well not allowed to hunt for the duration.
- Cleansing of Survivors
After seven days of cleansing, the Ghigua or Priest/Priestess takes the pack to the White maiden river and instructs them to immerse themselves in water seven times, alternating direction of facing North and South. After the immersing ceremony the pack are presented with fresh clothes, an offering of Moko grass and sanctified beads. After the ceremony the pack returns to their daily routines

The Faith

The Great Hunter

It is known to all life the will of the Hunt and what the hunt truly means, whether you are to be prey or predator. It is knowing what the hunt is that gives the Great Hunter Wutanv power. Master of the hunt, and watcher of the shroud he is the ultimate hunter as none could best him. Imparting all who embodies the hunt with his presence, which he holds; ferocity, savagery, and an unyielding will.Among the wolf many tales say that he possesses unparalleled rage and fury. He is the spirit of the hunter who often takes the form of a monstrously powerful black wolf with eyes golden as the rising sun.Through this belief it is said the Great hunter has four different aspects and each aspect represents one part of the hunt. The first aspect of the wolf who imparts tenacity in the hunt, the ability to continuously attack and ravage ones prey until they lay fallen and defeated. The aspect of the bear who bestows great strength in the hunt, the ability to brazen a hunters way through challenges and become the brawn needed for the hunt. The courel who bestows leadership, the ability to lead those who follow a hunter and hunt both prey and predator for the glory of the hunt. Lastly the viper who bestows cunning and the art of being clever, knowing how to move and when to move. Testing ones prey and being sure each attack is successful and with little hesitation when striking. It is these four aspects that make the Great hunter whole, without these four he is nothing. To have the presence of the Great Hunter one must teach themselves and possess the four aspects of the hunt. When learning each aspect of the hunt you are enlightened with the knowledge given to properly hunt and track your quarry. Online those who possess these strong qualities can be one of his chosen few but all who calls them a hunter may enter his realms of Xibalba. Xibalba is the resting place of all hunters and people of the hunt, no matter how your life has ended nor how weak of a hunter you are. You can only gain entry if the hunt is part of you and your core of your life. Xibalba and the Great Hunter do not discriminate against race, color or creed.

The Faith

The wolf tribe faith is in the Great spirits, Sun God Azeyma and the Moon God Menphina. While they do practice the full faith of the twelve it is always through their history to worship the Great Spirits, Azeyma and Menphina. It is their belief that it was the Great Spirits that created the natural world for all to live equally no matter beast or man. With Azeyama and Menphina the truest gods who birth the cycle of light and darkness, Day and night. Every soul and being have a purpose upon the land and the endless cycle that keeps the land healthy. It was the belief of the wolf that all Greater spirits once roamed the lands and sea as Guardians of their own creations. Only with time and the growing of man caused their presence to cease, leaving them to rarely if ever show themselves to those that give them their greatest appreciation.

The Shrine

The Shrine of the Great Hunter is for warriors, hunters and priests that upheld strength, power and the hunt. It is for those that wish to go further in their worship of the hunt and praise something greater that aligns with their own moral code. The Great Hunter is a deity to the Wolf Tribe but a Great spirit in his name., To be able to hunt and become the strongest predator that will be feared is their goal. To be able to finally die after a worthy hunt and pass on into the Eternal hunting grounds of Xibalba . The Shrine is open to all that wishes for that higher purpose and to be a part of something greater than their mundane lives.

The Belief

The Philosophy of the Hunt

The hunt in the wolf tribe eyes is similar if not the same, as the philosophy of the cosmos. Each creature, man or beast is properly placed in the cosmos, from the lowest to the highest, strongest first, weakest last. It is through this belief of the hunt that is recognized and utilized through the livelihood of the wolf. This belief emphasizes power, bravery, and a strong desire to free himself the wolf so strongly believe in, strength above all else in the hunt and to see if you are predator or prey. It is the tenacity to hunt your mark while even not in combat, to aspire for a goal and set upon it. The hunt neither has Morality or is ‘Good’ in nature, the hunt is simply the hunt. Good is seen as an excuse to promote the mediocrity of the whole and suppress the better and more capable, Morality only hinders them further by questioning their stance and often humanity.

Rites and Rituals

Diniyoli Trials

The Diniyoli upon coming of age would set out to embark on a long journey that traverses the spiritual and physical realm. It is through their journey they would travel and walk the realms of Xibalba and our own, between the fissures that connect the two to pass their Trail. Learning and fully embracing an aspect of The Great Hunter. Spending one day and one night for each
Aspect until all have been learned and embraced. The Diniuoli would then face the minor aspect of their own spirit in order to complete the trial.

Nagoligvna Trials

The Nagolignva that seeks to become a wolf must undertake the teachings and lessons of each aspect of the Great Hunter. With each lesson would they grow to learn of the Great Hunter and what makes him whole, as well what drives the pack to be great hunters. Only when they learn of the aspects and know them like they know themselves are they allowed to take their trial. A trial to prove themselves useful to the pack as allies or perhaps Honored allies, those who are blooded within the pack no matter their race.

Scarification

When Diniyoli or Honored allies finishes their trials and return home for their last bit of Testing they are to go through scarification. What is Scarification? Scarifying involves scratching, etching, burning / branding, or superficially cutting designs, pictures, or words into the skin as a permanent body modification. Scarification will be done by those assigned to the task generally high ranking members of the pack. Once done they will be officially an adult or within the pack.

Pack names are often given by the Konaar after spending much time watching over the former Diniyoli or Honored allies. Once enough time has passed during their pledging night would they be given their pack name. There are Two main names a wolf would often take and they are: Animal or Virtue names. Wolf Mask Ritual

The Wolf mask ritual is a powerful ceremony for wolf tribe members who have found their equal. Their equal is their wolf counterpart that roams the lands of the Shroud. Their equal is one who has the same characteristics, mannerism, urges and personality. The ritual is meant to connect man and beast together to form a strong bond that can never be separated. The Wolf member that chooses to take this ritual upon finding their equal must hunt them. This is the ONLY time one is allowed to hunt a wolf without consequence. It is to note this ritual is rare and often one or few partake in the ritual for several decades, even centuries. Only when the ritual is completed is when both souls are bound together,

Celebrations

Celebration Description
Day of the MoonDay of the Moon is the Celebration of The Lover and her watchful gaze over the Keepers, Having this day and night to spend with the clan's allies and celebrate with them as they worship their Goddess. During these times often do the pack take it upon themselves to find potential suitors amongst the tribe or even among allies. At times where all is vulnerable and the allowance of emotion is let out freely.
Celebration of the Bear (Spring)The celebration of the bear is to venerate the aspect of the bear that makes the strength of the Great hunter. The celebration often begins with a large feast to which the pack eats in abundance, It is through the spring do the bear wakes from their hibernation and go in search of food. Displaying their mighty strength to search the land and eat in excess. After the Great feast will then be the showing of strength where those of the pack may prove themselves to the aspect of the bear and show they are strong. Often does the Great Hunter impart the aspect of the bear onto the winner if they do not already have it, empowering them for future hunts. These bouts of strength will generally be a tournament with one single victor at the end or even if the Celebration is much more lively to then run the Gauntlet. A long grueling trial fitted with dangerous traps and beasts, only one can be successful.
Celebration of the Viper (Summer)The celebration of the Viper is to venerate the aspect of the Viper within the Great Hunter. The celebration is to both worship the aspect but also relish in its radiance, allowing those of the wolf to harden their skills as well giving the respect that it deserves. During these celebrations it is the battle of wit and cunning that plays the larger roll then that of strength, small hunting games aiming to out-wit your opponent rather than to defeat them with your strength. Forcing them to do something you had already planned and then taking the victory.
Day of the SunDay of sun is the celebration of the warden and her Golden city, the watcher of her children of the sun. Oftentimes held near the end of the Summer season where her influence and power is at her peak just as it was during midsummer and the beginning. The tribe often takes this time to trade, farm, hunt in excess, and raid other clans and tribes if favorable. Only during the Day of the sun will the Great Spirits forgive their glounty to hunt and be free in excess.
Celebration of the Courel(Fall)The celebration of the Courel is to both give praise and respect to the courel but also preparation for the winter season. It is through this season that they look upon the previous leaders of the Tribe and learn how they led the pack, to understand the meaning of what it takes to be a leader. It is during This small intimate celebration that the current Konaar of the tribe is to re pledge himself as Konaar of the Tribe, to uplift his pack siblings and lead them into another year healthy and strong.
Celebration of the Wolf (Winter)The celebration of the Wolf is one of respect and admiration. Not only their respective totem it is the aspect of the wolf that is strong within the Great hunter, the wolf is not as strong as the bear or as cunning as the viper alone. But within its community and the pack it runs with, its own tenacity is shown and its truest strength alit for all to see. It is why Remembrances of the dead and one's ancestors were made during this feast. To reflect back on the year for all they have lost and see the future. It is also the time for the Volg Nir, or, the Wild Hunt. The Volg Nir is done upon the last day of the year and the first of the next. It is when the hunters of the tribe ascend the mountains that lead into coerthas and they must hunt within the lands. It is said that during the Volg Nir the hunters are as close to Xibalba then any time.

The Konaar have the LAST word in all disagreements. The Konaar decide on ranking, courting, assessments, and banishment of wolves. Another important responsibility of the Konaar is to maintain the pack's hunting territory. They often work alongside the Staratel for the goal of keeping the pack healthy and strong, often would they use the Udadelisdi to handle more sensitive matters in regards to the health of the pack.
The Nunh (Selected Breeding Male)Nunh within the White Maiden Wolves is a title given by the females of the tribe who they believe is the best male. Rather than the title being fought for (Which more often than not still happens). This will allows the title to be freely given by the collective of females in the pack. Designating one or two(Rarely) males they believe would sire the strongest kits. That being said the title of Nunh doesn't mean Chieftain (Raak Konaar) which often is confused.

Lower Hierarchy

RankDescription
The Ayawisgi (Sentinel/Guard)These brave wolves patrol the territory along the White Maiden River to ensure no unwelcome guests or predators make their way into the land. Each is responsible for keeping the boundary lines marked by routinely taking shifts. At times, they may be charged with mapping land to further the pack’s territorial claim, but never without the expressed permission of the Konaar or the Staratel.
The Alisdelisgi(Protector)Fortifiers of the house and home and wolves therein. Each are charged with addressing potential threats that may pass through the Ayawisqi’s sights, as well as ensuring the wellbeing of the wolves within the territory. They have the privilege of first address to territory guests, if they are present.
The Ganohalidohi (Hunter) All wolves are expected to know how to hunt in some fashion, however this rank is bestowed to those with an exceptionally high degree of accuracy skill and perception during pack hunts. They are responsible for keeping the pack fed even during lean times. Primordials- Ganohalidohi that have surpassed the chains of man to reawaken the latent abilities of the savagery of man. Unlocking strength and brawn on par with predators of the wild and further surpassing their limits, those deemed a Primordial often are the strongest warriors of the pack. There are few who unlocks this latent ability and fewer who have mastered it. Beast Shamans- Ganohalidohi that have forged a strong bond with the wild and nature, those who learned to watch predators hunt and prey be chased to further hone their skulls. Beast Shamans imply what is known to the tribe as beast magics to mimic the beasts they venerate to further their skills of the hunt. The Udadelisdi (Shadows)The Udadelisdi are roles specifically for the packs Keeper counter parts and those tread the line of both Keeper culture as well seeker. This role was made within the pack to house the greatest of keeper and skeeper warriors and hunters, allowing them to actively aide the pack without having to abandon their culture entirely. This role is not forced upon them but it is always an option. This role is broken further down by the tribes long lasting alliance with the two Keeper clans known as Epokha and Skadi and their respective warriors. Venomancers(Epokha) Venomancers as they would be called in the typical keeper tongue, the Epokha posed a special gift; conjure venom from the blood of their veins. The Adder is what they symbolized themselves as and the aether conjured secretions they emitted from their blood they used to coat their weapons and arrows. Reavers (Skadi) Reavers of the Skadi clan command the energy that flows through blood and bone. The Skadi clan reavers trades pain for strength in a constant balance of selfish sacrifice. Dangerously gambling their health and life to gain strength and abilities far exceeding their normal frame. The reaver abilities finally results in a brutal harmony of fates, the closer they are to their own deaths, the more efficient they are at inflicting the same to their prey.

They are not permitted to hunt, fight, or take on possibly detrimental responsibilities while under this rank.
Udvsonvhi(The Elders) The aged and experienced of the pack that have either renounced their ruling positions or have sought the pack to be their final resting place. They are treated with dignity, but are considered ‘weak’, regardless.

The Shunned

RankDescription
The Udehohisdi (Omega) A disciplinary role for the wolves that have either brought disgrace to the pack or themselves. The duration of their ‘punishment’ is dependent on the severity of the ‘wrong’ as well as the individual’s determination of making amends with the pack.

Structure and Practices

Hunting Practices

Hunting for the Wolf is not only held in reverence but marks a joyous time for those involved. To give respect to the totem and gods therein while honoring the kill itself makes for a more secure and wholesome experience for the pack; to enjoy the hunt without fear of upset.

  • Abstain from intercourse four suns (days) before the hunt, and four suns (days) upon its conclusion

  • Bathe in the depths of the White Maiden River the day Before the hunt, or within a blessed spring on the last light of day

  • An offering of the kill itself is made in reverence to the gods both in gratitude and to satisfy their desire to hunt

  • All parts of the kill are used. Nothing is left to waste.

Feymahsedilah: Duel

Matters of importance and/or disagreements are settled by a duel, rather than taking to fists or steel right away. Two (2) days after the uttered challenge will permit the contest’s commencement, under the Pack’s attention if necessary. However, if either challenger does not show for the bout, the absent will be called Udehohisdi (The Shamed), and under the right of the attending, could be banished from the territory. In the instance either challenger is unable or unfit to exact their claim, they may choose a proxy to fight for them.

Wolf Ensemble

- CLOTHING
The descendents of the Wolf Tribe wore heavy furs and hide in keeping with their original climates. However, time and change in location has inspired them to utilize the materials of The Black Shroud, mainly attire woven from diremite silk, antelope hide, and other native materials.
During meetings and gatherings of reverence to the eld, packmates adopt the traditional heavy fur and thick hides in homage.- WEAPONRY
The Pack originally favored hand-to-hand combat, catering to The Aniwaya practice. Though generations and shifts in practice and location have broadened their combat potential with axe-work, archery, even lance-wielding as a means of hunting and defense.
Aether is also used, but more so for combat usage where within Runes are used with their own unique properties.

Rune | Beast Magic

- GALDR
An aether based magic constructed in the form of Runes, each representing a creature or abstract composition known to the conjurer. Each rune carries its own meaning, as well as a sound, with cast methods ranging from ritual, to incantation, talisman, or the more common illustration.
- GANGR
Literally voiced as ‘Beast Magic’. This manipulation of aether allows the conjurer to alter their form or ‘mimic’ traits of living creatures found in the natural world. This art is not without its drawbacks, and is rarely practiced outside of the Pack’s Beast Shamans.

Sacred Animals

- Wolves
Totem to the Pack and highest among the Sacred Animals. The hunters are advised not to actively hunt this creature unless in self-defense, and even then, the hunter must restrain from setting the wolf low. The only blessed instance where a wolf life is taken is during the ritual ceremony of the Wolf Mask.
- Antelope
The only Sacred Animal of the four that can be hunted without consequence, however their sacrifice to the hunters is never short-sighted. It is believed that the deer exist to provide its strength to the hunters, as well as a sign of fertility.
- Hawks
Praised messengers from the Spiritual Realm and escorts of the fallen hunter’s soul to the afterlife. The presence of the hawk is to invite the spectator to be sharp and ready. However a circling hawk is meant to convey a hunter’s death, waiting for the body’s acknowledgement before spiriting the soul away.
- OPO- OPO
Sacred Animal to the pack in form, the Wolves revere these creatures because of their function as a community. A single leader heads the often large communities, and is marked as an inspiration by current and past Wolf leadership. It is also acknowledged that a Great Opo-Opo Spirit dwells within The Black Shroud to offer its guidance… but is often hidden from the view of man.

The Wolf Tongue

Native Tongue
The wolf tongue had been used since the known beginning of their tribe, the centuries cultivating the language into what it is today. Strangely from an outsider's perspective one could see the odd similarity between the Eorzean language and that of the wolf, somewhat hinting back upon their tribal letters which are the same as the Eorzea Alphabet. Though with most languages there are distinctive differences that set them apart from the rest. Namely for the Wolf pronunciation of their tongue digraphs "aa," "ah," "ei," "ey," "ii," "ir," "uu," "ur," and "oo" often confuses.
"Aa" and "ah" are both a long, open "a" /aː/; the latter, however, being formed more gutturally (sometimes becoming /ɔː/).
"Oo" is used in the instances where the normal "o" sound /o/ (English "port") needs to become long (/oː/), as in the English "door." Only "uu" takes on the sound of an English double-"o" (see the above examples). "ii" would tend to be longer (/ɪː/).
"Ir" and "ur" equate to /ir/ and /ur/, respectively.
Finally, there is a difference between "ei" and "ey": "ei" is pronounced as in German, producing a vowel as in price. "Ey," on the other hand, sounds as in face.
The language has basically the same grammar as English, with the exceptions that it does not have an equivalent to English apostrophes; it tends to place prepositional phrases earlier in sentences than in eorzean, and does not have tense. To pluralize a word, the final letter is repeated and "e" is added (i.e. "grohiik": wolf; "grohiikke": wolves)
While this is the tribes Native tongue over the years it has become widely disused and close to extinction. Only those knowledgeable of the ancient Ahhegrohiik knows how to speak, read and write their tongue accurately. Though it is in hope over time the language returns to the forefront of the tribe.
